What an incredible day it has been! Debra Lavake Cobb and I started our journey in the heart of Egypt with an awe-inspiring visit to the Giza Pyramid Complex, and it only got better from there.
After exploring the iconic pyramids and taking a camel ride with some truly spectacular views of the Great Pyramid, Khafre, and Menkaure, we ended our day with an unforgettable dinner on the Nile River. The evening was calm and beautiful, and the vibrant hues of the sunset cast a golden glow across the waters, making it a perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal. The food was incredible—an authentic taste of Egyptian flavors, served in style with the river as our view.
But the adventure didn’t end there! After dinner, we took a boat ride down the Nile River, and to our surprise, Debra even took the helm! It was a special moment, sailing down the legendary river that has witnessed so much of Egypt’s history. We enjoyed the peaceful, quiet waters as the city of Cairo drifted by in the evening light.
The following day was equally thrilling. We had the chance to learn more about Egypt's ancient past with a visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. We saw over 50 mummies—some of Egypt's most famous rulers and queens—on display. It was fascinating to learn about the mummification process and how ancient Egyptians preserved their leaders for the afterlife. The museum brought Egypt's rich history to life in a way that felt intimate and inspiring.
Of course, no adventure is without its surprises, and as we were leaving for Saudi Arabia, we faced a dramatic sandstorm. It added an extra layer of excitement to our journey—reminding us of the wild and unpredictable nature of the desert!
During our stay in Cairo, Debra and I were lucky enough to stay at The Cosmopolitan Hotel, which turned out to be the perfect place for us. We’re always on the lookout for unique and authentic places to stay, and this hotel was no exception. Built by Swiss-born hotel magnate Charles Albert Baehler and Italian architect Alphonse Sasso, it’s a stunning example of 1920s beauty and opulence. The hotel has so much character and charm from that era, making it a truly memorable part of our journey.
It’s been a truly magical few days in Egypt, filled with history, adventure, and exploration. From the ancient pyramids to the tranquil waters of the Nile, it’s been a trip of a lifetime. We can’t wait to see where our next adventure will take us!
